Zeeland Pumpkinfest

For over 30 years this Dutch-rooted town has thrown a fall festival that reinvents itself annually - each year brings a new theme, from Wild West to circus, and the whole of Main Street decorates to match, floats included. The signature event is gloriously simple: the B.Y.O.P. Pumpkin Roll, where you bring your own pumpkin and send it careening down Zeeland Christian Hill. Add a pie-eating contest, a pet costume parade, a kids' tractor pull, and a stein-holding contest, and you have small-town autumn distilled.
