Michigan Apple Fest

They call this stretch of country The Ridge, and it's been growing fruit for well over a century - so in 1950 the Peach Ridge Fruit Growers Association threw an Apple Smorgasbord where neighbors brought apple dishes to share, once turning up 202 of them. Seventy-five years on, downtown Sparta still marks the harvest every September with an apple pie baking contest, a pie-eating contest, live music, and Market on the Ridge, a juried market of local makers.
