Romeo Peach Festival
When Macomb County's orchards were producing more peaches than the market could absorb in 1931, Romeo's village president traveled north to study Traverse City's Cherry Festival, came home, and launched a peach celebration that's now Michigan's second-oldest festival at 95 years running. Five Labor Day weekend days bring 25,000 people downtown for three parades (including a nighttime lighted one and the Peach Parade with the newly crowned Peach Queen), a carnival, a charity car cruise, and the wonderfully specific spectacle of the Peach Festival Bed Races.
