Great Lakes Colonial Festival
Sixteenth-century French explorers found a lake and a river on the Catholic feast day of Saint Clare, and named them for her - which is how Lake St. Clair got its name, and how the Feast of the Ste. Claire got its. For more than forty years that festival filled Pine Grove Park with 600 reenactors in a hundred colonial camps, representing Native American, French, British, and early American life along the river, with candlelight tours and colonial dances after dark. It returns Memorial Day Weekend 2027 reborn as the Great Lakes Colonial Festival, broadening the story to the whole Great Lakes region.
