Pinconning CheeseTown Festival
A Wisconsin cheesemaker named Dan Horn moved here in 1915, noticed the logging town was turning into dairy pasture, and opened a cheese factory - which is how a city of 1,200 came to call itself the Cheese Capital of Michigan. Pinconning cheese is a Colby style aged up to 120 months, and the shop across from the original factory is now the oldest cheese shop in the state. The festival celebrates it with a macaroni and cheese cookoff, the CheeseTown Challenge races, a carnival, petting zoo, magic show, and fireworks.
