Paradise Wild Blueberry Festival
A fire tore through the Whitefish Point area in 1922, and wild blueberries - which thrive in burned-over ground - came up thick across the scorched land, eventually earning this remote town the title of Michigan's Wild Blueberry Capital. Since 1984 the third weekend in August has meant blueberry pancakes, pies, muffins, and buckles at the township community center, an arts and crafts fair, strolling entertainers, and a Fish Bowl game whose proceeds go straight back into the community - all of it an hour past the Mackinac Bridge on the Shipwreck Coast.
