Porcupine Mountains Music Festival
A couple who'd just bought a resort in Ontonagon looked up at the Porkies ski hill in 2002 and thought it would make a fine music venue - then a guest with festival-organizing experience happened to book a room, and the conversation turned to music. Three years later it became the first music festival ever held inside a Michigan state park. Twenty years on, audiences spread blankets across a mowed ski slope in the state's largest wilderness, with folk and blues and bluegrass on the main stage and a Busking Barn where pros and amateurs alike play for tips.
