Four Flags Area Apple Festival

Niles is the oldest European settlement in lower Michigan, and four nations - France, England, Spain, and the United States - have flown their flags over it across three centuries, which is how the town and its festival got the name. Since 1972 the harvest has been celebrated on 24 acres across from the high school, where every guest is handed a free apple on the way in, and the contests run to apple peeling, log cutting, biggest apple, and scarecrow building.
