Bay-Rama Fishfly Festival
Every June, clouds of stinky, short-lived fishflies erupt off Lake St. Clair and blanket New Baltimore - and rather than fight the swarm, the town decided 60 years ago to throw it a party, making this the world's only festival honoring the bug. The fishflies are actually a badge of pride (they only thrive in clean water), so New Baltimore embraces its unlikely mascot with a parade, a Miss Bay-Rama pageant, waterfront fireworks, and the cheerful motto 'if you can't beat 'em, party with 'em.'
