Festival of the Angry Bear
When Lake Superior's shore finally starts to thaw each April, Marquette 'wakes the bear' - a fur-clad, street-closing block party that celebrates Yoopers emerging from a long winter's hibernation. Run by Ore Dock Brewing but powered by the whole town (a brass-band march, a Children's Museum kids' event, a Special Olympics 5K, keg bowling, and a growler-holding contest), it centers on the Angry Bear, a year-aged Belgian sour poured only once winter finally loosens its grip.
