Manton Area Harvest Festival

A town of twelve hundred has been throwing this since 1924, and the Labor Day schedule reads like a portrait of small-town northern Michigan: coffee and donuts at the senior center, the Methodist church book sale, the Liberty Ladies Aid quilt raffle, a quilt show at the mill. Then the parade rolls down Main with the Scottville Clown Band and the high school marching band, kids scrambling for candy in the street, before the afternoon gives way to a car show and a four-hour lumberjack competition.
