Mackinac Island Lilac Festival
On a Lake Huron island where cars are banned and travel means horse, bicycle, or foot, some lilac bushes have been blooming for over 200 years - among the oldest and largest in North America. Every June this fragrant heritage anchors a 10-day festival: a Lilac Queen coronation, garden walks with a lilac expert, a whimsical Dog & Pony Parade, and a Grand Parade that's one of the only entirely horse-drawn parades left in the country.
