Mackinac Island Halloween Weekend

Mackinac Island's last big party before it shuts down for winter. On the last weekend of October, an island with no cars and plenty of horses fills with costumes. Kids trick-or-treat from shop to shop downtown on Saturday afternoon, more than 2,000 runners take on the Great Turtle Trail half marathon and its odd 5.7-mile course through the island's woods, the Grand Hotel runs a haunted trail, and the pubs throw costume parties into the night. Shops run end-of-season sales before most of the island closes for the year.
