Ludington Lumber Days
Fourteen sawmills once lined Pere Marquette Lake here, cutting the white pine that got shipped off to build Chicago and Milwaukee. The mills are gone but the town - voted Best Historic Small Town in America - started this fall festival to honor them: a logging encampment reenactment, walking tours of the lumber barons' mansions, a workout built around log rolls and ax swings and stump jumps, and a Plaidurday Pub Crawl that asks only that you wear flannel.
