U.P. Championship Rodeo
The Upper Peninsula is known for lakes and dense forest, not cowboy country - but Iron River has hosted the only PRCA-sanctioned professional rodeo in Michigan since 1970, and it's now in its 59th year. Three performances over two days bring bull riding, saddle bronc, barrel racing, steer wrestling, and tie-down roping to the Iron County Fairgrounds. The whole town turns out around it: Market Days downtown, a pancake breakfast at the senior center, an antique tractor show and brat feed at the VFW, and a Wild West Parade Saturday morning.
