Howell Melon Festival
Howell once gave its name to a cantaloupe, the Howell melon, and for more than 65 years the town has thrown a festival for it, even as the last growers have nearly disappeared. Downtown fills for four days with Howell Melon ice cream, a "One in a Melon" mile run and a small-town celebration of a fruit most people have never tasted.
