Plaidurday
Plaidurday began in 2010 when Bugsy Sailor, a Yooper who kept getting teased at his Lansing job for always wearing plaid, decided the pattern deserved its own holiday - and it grew into a worldwide celebration every first Friday of October. In the Keweenaw, where plaid has kept lumberjacks and copper miners cozy for generations, Houghton throws the flagship party: in 2023 the town gathered 1,745 plaid-clad people to shatter the Canadian-held world record for most people wearing plaid in one place.
