Tulip Time
Holland's Tulip Time began in 1929, after a high-school biology teacher suggested it and the city sold tulip bulbs to residents for a penny apiece - and it's now the longest-running tulip festival in America, drawing nearly a million visitors to see 6 million tulips bloom across the city. Expect Dutch dancers by the hundreds clacking through the streets in wooden shoes, a 250-year-old working windmill shipped over from the Netherlands, a traditional street-scrubbing ceremony, and parades that rank among Michigan's largest.
