National Asparagus Festival
Oceana County grows 80% of Michigan's asparagus and calls itself the Asparagus Capital of the World, so it's fitting that Hart hosts the country's longest-running asparagus festival, going strong since 1974. The little town more than doubles in size every June for a 'Taste of Asparagus' cook-off, an asparagus-eating contest, farm tours, the 'Spear-It' 5K, and a royale parade led by the reigning Asparagus Queen - who waves proudly past the occasional 'asparagus, really?' from the crowd.
