Freeland Walleye Festival
Every April, walleye run up the Tittabawassee River to spawn, and Freeland has built a four-day town festival around meeting them - the tournament opens at one minute past midnight on Saturday, with anglers lining the banks in the dark. Started in 1985 as a Lions Club fishing fundraiser and now in its 40th year, it's grown to include a parade, carnival, beer tent, and a city-wide garage sale, with proceeds that literally built the town's festival park.
