Frankenmuth Oktoberfest
Frankenmuth threw its first Oktoberfest in 1990 to celebrate the fall of the Berlin Wall, and six years later Munich's Lord Mayor and the German Parliament formally sanctioned it - the first and only Oktoberfest outside Munich to run with the original's blessing. Hofbrauhaus exported its beer to the United States for the first time in history to sponsor it, and the dates were shifted to September to open alongside Munich's. Four days of oompah bands, yodeling, and liters poured in a scaled-down beer hall, plus a Saturday wiener dog race with a hundred costumed dachshunds.
