Movement Electronic Music Festival

Techno was invented in Detroit, and in 2000 the city finally threw it a party - a free festival curated by Carl Craig, featuring the Belleville Three who created the genre, that drew close to a million people before anyone had a smartphone to hear about it on. The city didn't sign the contract until the day before. Twenty-five years and four different names later it's still at Hart Plaza every Memorial Day weekend, six stages on the riverfront, in the only place that can call itself the birthplace.
