Charlevoix Venetian Festival

Since 1931, this lakeside town wedged between Lake Michigan and Round Lake has turned high summer into an eight-day waterfront celebration - and it began with something simple and lovely: a parade of candle-lit boats. That tradition is now the festival's crown jewel, a nighttime lighted boat parade of vessels strung with hundreds of lights and choreographed to music, gliding around the harbor before fireworks over the water. Best of all, the whole thing - concerts, parades, fireworks - is free.
