Cedar Polka Festival
Polish families began homesteading this corner of the Leelanau Peninsula around 1868, but nobody had ever thrown a public celebration of it - until 1975, when members of the Polish Legion of American Veterans vacationing from Dearborn discovered Cedar was a Polish town and decided to fix that. Fifty years on it's one of the very few polka festivals left in America: four days under the big tent with the country's best polka bands, pierogi and kielbasa, a car show, and two races nobody forgets - the four-mile Run 4 The Kielbasa and the two-mile Run 2 The Pierogi.
