CopperDog 150 Sled Dog Race
A few people in Calumet had an idea in 2009, and by the next winter they had a sled dog race - now fifty teams, 440 dogs, 5,000 fans, and up to 500 volunteers taking over the Keweenaw the first weekend of March. Snow gets trucked onto historic Fifth Street for the Friday-night start, teams launching every two minutes into the dark while the town turns into a street party behind them. The route runs to Eagle Harbor, up to Copper Harbor, over the crest of Brockway Mountain and back - with locals along the trail handing out hot drinks to mushers and spectators alike.
