National Morel Mushroom Festival

The morel is a wild mushroom that reveals itself for only a few fleeting weeks each spring, and Boyne City has built a beloved festival around hunting it. The centerpiece is the National Competitive Morel Hunt - foragers board a school bus to a secret patch of northern woods and get 90 minutes to bag as many as they can - alongside a 'Taste of Morels' chef competition, guided seminars, and the giddy secrecy of hunters who'll share recipes but never their spots.
