Elk Festival
Atlanta - the other one, population 720, tucked between Gaylord and Alpena - calls itself the Elk Capital of Michigan, sitting at the heart of the largest free-roaming elk herd east of the Mississippi. Four days each September bring a parade, craft vendors, a beer tent, and live music to a town where the elk genuinely outnumber the people.
